Grandmother’s Check In…
Summer is a perfect setting for watching my grandchildren, Florence, 6.5 and Evelyn, 4, discover new ways to bring stories and rhymes into everyday life.
We have sighted The Eentsy Weentsy Spider at work in the down spout, spied Mr. Moon out too soon, and have even seen the little mousie, creeping up the stairs!
We have seen a flower grow like this, and a tree grow like that!
We have said, here is my garden, plant it with care! And we have sung many baby dolls to sleep with By low, my baby.
Plato said: The best education is that in which the child plays amongst beautiful things!
When children’s heads are full of language, watching them play is a beautiful thing!
Garden Time
Here is my garden, rake it with care. Here are some seeds I plant in there. And the sun will shine and the rain will fall, and my little flowers will grow up big and tall!
Dig a little hole. Pant a little seed. Add a little water. Pull a little weed. Chase a little bug – hey ho, there he goes! Add a little sun, and watch your garden grow.
A flower grows like this.
A tree grows like this.
And I grow just like that!
The Three Wishes Festival
Friday and Saturday, June 7 & 8, Storytellers for Children presented our 4th Annual Festival. Renowned children’s performer, Bill Russell from Quebec City, presented “Just for Fun – Pour le Plaisir!” Bill’s morning and afternoon concerts for preschool & primary grades included French and English songs and string games. And Bill offered a fun and informative workshop on Saturday for adults who work / play with children.
At last year’s Three Wishes Festival, Kathy Reid-Naiman and her daughter Hannah Naiman presented Circle Games Workshop. Kathy’s Cds and Bill’s CDs, Bon Appetit and Zing! Zang! Zo! are available at Mable’s Fables Children’s Bookstore, at 662 Mt. Pleasant Rd. A perfect place to spend a quiet summer afternoon, browsing the rich collection of books for all ages!
